REFLECTIONS

When I was a kid we made trips in the car,
And they seemed to take forever.
On trips afar we would try to make
A hundred miles in a day.
I remember so vividly the time of arrival,
As I had wished it each minute of day.
If I had told myself there were things to see,
And much to think about –
The time would have passed at a much faster rate,
And I wouldn’t have been such a pain.
I am now an adult of six score and more,
But I’m acting like a kid again.
As I do a hundred on my tandem bike,
I wonder when I will be there.
It’s a long way to go no matter how,
So one needs something for focus.
And when it’s done day after day,
The journey must dwarf the destination.
