RON’S OHIO
I have spent some time along this mighty river,
And it has a strange hold on me.
I think the way it dominates the scene,
And its size and speed and color –
All work to give us something special
That is bigger than we can hope to be.
It winds and twists and turns it way
From Pittsburgh to Old Man River.
In places it is narrow and deep,
And in others it is wide and shallow.
At times it’s like a piece of glass
That has been carefully cut and bent.
At other times when blasted by the wind,
It is more like the sea than a river.
Home for some, conveyance for others
It has played a mighty role.
It has had a hand in the development of our country –
It has hosted the development of many a man.
It has its sores and many blights,
But it has its beauty too.
And, it has my heart, and I know not why,
But I am happy to know it better.
