THE TURTLE

I am a little turtle,
I crawl along with grace.
I carry my house upon my back,
I can go where ever I please.
Today I took a little walk
Across a field and ditch.
I reached a place that was warm and smooth,
But the noise was very fierce.
These things came by in many sizes,
But all made lots of sounds.
One thing came by that made no noise,
Two people made it go.
The thing stopped quickly, and one dismounted,
She pointed a thing at me.
She then came over to get so close,
But another thing arrived.
It scarred me mightily, I pulled me in,
And the thing went right on by.
The lady picked me up so gentally,
I am not sure why.
She put me in the cool, green grass,
And off they went up the road.
