THE BEGINNING

I stand here where these rivers join,
And wonder what's gone before us.
I also wonder what tomorrow holds,
As we start to follow history.
The chills run up and down my back,
As I think of what they did.
They opened up a country,
And gave us what we have.
We can stand here now, and enjoy beauty,
We can appreciate the power,
But it is really very difficult
To relate to what they did.
No maps, few resources, just a few good men,
A Corp of Discovery like no other known to man.
We'll ride our bike as close as we can
To the way they chose to go.
We won't contribute nearly as much,
But the thrill won't be a lot different!
