RIVER SURPRISE
We had traveled miles from the town of Platte,
This time in a pickup truck.
The road stretched out in front of us,
The land was flat for miles.
We turned to the West,
And still face miles of green and flat and beautiful.
The road dipped suddenly presenting a painting,
Of the cut of the beautiful Missouri.
The background was green, the foreground Chamberlain,
And the subject the surprising river.
If we had stopped just a few miles back,
No one would have guessed -
The terrain was hiding a gem!
