THE JEFFERSON

Our bike takes us up the canyon,
Alongside a beautiful river.
It is not the biggest river, nor the smallest either,
But it plays large in the whole scheme of things.
Its like a strip of midnight sky winding through the canyon,
Its wavelets reflecting the sun like stars in the clear night sky.
It is deep and precise, it moves with authority,
it's like it knows something we should know.
And, it probably does, since it has seen so much -
And done so much.
It has carved two valleys, made beautiful terrane,
Carried commerce for settlers, many.
It was the last resort for the Corps of Discovery -
For a way to the Pacific Ocean.
It is now a place to fish and rest,
And think of happenings past.
It is a wonderful thing, a beautiful sights,
And our bike took us to see it!
