AMERICA

Hey, you wonderful, beautiful country,
I have seen you from your port to starboard.
You must be a devil in angel's clothing,
For you have provided a challenge.
While giving me beauty to keep me occupied,
You have brutalized my body.
You made me work against the wind,
And strive so hard to climb.
You've nearly used my trusty bike,
My mind, my heart and soul.
But what a show you displayed for me,
It was new in every state.

In the East you gave me the broad, sandy beaches,
The mountains, and rivers and hardwoods.
In the Midwest you gave me some gentle hills,
Some corn, and the Ohio to follow.
In the Heartland you gave me Loess Hills,
And rollers that numb the mind. In the plains it was grass, and the famous amber grain, And a land as flat as some slate. In the West it was mountains so stately and adorned,
And wheat and orchards and vines.

You're about to give me your Pacific Ocean,
When I ride my bike tomorrow.
When that is done, the trip is down,
And pride will replace anticipation!
