This mural is in downtown Dayton and along with other paintings on bricks adds charm to this small town on "The Forgotton Trail".

These golden hills were on both are left and right most of the day until we reached the Columbia River.

This barn was typical of some of the older structures for the wheat harvest. This is winter wheat that according to the wheat farmer at breakfast this morning should be ready for harvest in a few weeks.

This house is outside of Waitzberg where we had started to detour for Hwy 12 West and then asked a local and he advised that we could simply go five blocks around the downtown section and we'd be back on 12. The construction was in-town and WSDOT didn't want truck traffic going through town.

Winter wheat in front with a legume of some type growing in the strip behind it.

One of our biggest climbs crested at Lewis Peak Road. Lewis is a very popular name in this area.

We "sailed" through Walla Walla by staying on 12 except to get water. Many farms and road side markets like this one had sweet onions for sale.

This nice older farm house was also just outside of Walla Walla.

Quite a few horses are kept in this area and they were out doing what horses do quite early.

A group of older cars drove past us going in the opposite direction -- this was the only one I could capture with the camera.

More horses doing what horses do ...

The landscape was very dry until we got closer to the Columbia where more irrigation takes place.

The Columbia River is just on the other side of this waterway.

This picture was taken just before we crossed into Oregon. The white ribbon in the background is a train on the Washington side of the gorge.

This grain processing area was one of many along the river.

Another river shot showing the Washington landscape.

We had made a pit stop and this shot is looking back towards the Washington and Oregon Border.

This landscape is very typical of the area outside of Umatilla.
