To take advantage of the view, the Holiday Inn had a deck area off of its breakfast room. |

We left early hoping to miss some of the heat of the day. The other advantage to leaving at 6:30 is having the streets almost to yourself. |

We crossed the Snake River as we rode into Clarkston, Lewiston's sister city. |

The Snake River was calm when we left and the hillsides were reflected in its water. |

The river remained on our right for about six miles. |

The hills on the right had been burned at one point and provided an interesting contrast. to the ones on our left and behind them. |

After we left the Snake Rive behind, there was some agriculture along the creeks as we climbed Alpowa Summit. |

In addition to the orchards there were fields of alfalfa and wheat. |

More road side geology as we continued to climb. As we climbed and the road widened for slower traffic, we were passed by the Wyman family on their motorcycles. They waved at us enthusiastically! |

Patah is famous for its flour mills that have since closed. In recent years, the mill has opened as a museum and this espresso shop was along the road.

Annalynne made our espressos. She'll be going into the 8th grade and is quite the business woman. Annalynne, please send us an e-mail (bikingtherivers@aol.com)! |

Some of the houses in Pomeroy were quite wonderful. Pomeroy has the distinction of being the only incorporated town in Garfield County. |

The day is getting hotter and the horses are moving in towards the shade. |

Some of the wheat fields are strip cropped. |

This farm had both sheep and llamas in its field. |

A number of old barns dotted the roadway. |

These fields have both spring and summer wheat planted. |

Just beyond this planter is the entrance to the Weinhart Hotel where we stayed in Dayton. |

This Buddy Holly bus was incorporated into the side of this restaurant wall. The business is now closed but must have been quite a place when it was in operation. |

We had met Jennie at the Chamber of Commerce and she had provided us with a great deal of local information. I saw her again at the Post Office when I was mailing a package to Bill. Patty is the postal clerk behind the counter. |

For $600 I could own this Alfa Romeo chrome race car. The pig driver is extra!!! |

This is the Weinhart Cafe where we ate lunch and dinner. We stayed at the Hotel upstairs. The food and accomodations were both excellent. |
