Today has been a transition day for us. Around noon we drove to North Bethesda to pick us Ron’s sister-in-law, Ellen, and then the three of us made the drive to Dewey Beach, Delaware on the Atlantic coast. One of the first beach towns along the Highway 1 stretch heading South, Dewey Beach and its neighbor Rehoboth Beach are just beginning to awaken from their winter slumber. Within a month these tiny towns will be filled with summer tourists. Right now, most of the restaurants are either closed or only open on the weekend for dinner.

The three of us took a walk out to Dewey Beach this evening and put the front wheel of the tandem in the water. Tomorrow morning we’ll be starting early and the forecast is for rain so we wanted to be certain to have at least one picture of us and part of the bike at the Atlantic.

We’re anxious to get started on our journey so tomorrow really can’t come soon enough. The portion of Delaware will be riding across tomorrow is basically flat with the only hills being freeway overpasses. Light rain is forecast with westerly winds. We could be very wet, riding into a headwind.
